A wonderful actress in the new era of Indian cinema. Her name is Tabassum Fatima Hashmi. We address her as ‘Tabu’ with love. Tabassum Fatima Hashmi alias Tabu, her parent’s name is Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana. Her parents separated from each other when she was very young. They both got divorced. Even Tabu has said it in many of her interviews that she has never seen her father.
She has seen the shadow of a father in her mother. Her mother was a school teacher. Her grandparents were retired professor. They owned a school. Tabu did her education in St. Ann’s High School, Hyderabad. She came to Mumbai in 1983. She studied for two years at St. Xavier’s college.
Everyone knows that she is a niece of famous actress Shabana Azmi and famous cinematographer, Baba Azmi. Her elder sister Farah Naaz, is a famous actress herself. The credit of her acting goes to famous actor Dev Anand. In the 1985 released movie,’ Hum Naujawan’ she acted as Dev Anand’s daughter. She was only 14 years old then.
As a main lead, she started her career with a Telugu movie ‘Coolie No. 1’. The hero of the film was Venkatesh. Everyone knows that not only in Hindi films but Tabu acted in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam Marathi, and Bengali. In 1980, the famous producer decided to launch two movies. One was ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ and the other was ‘Prem’. Boney Kapoor’s younger brother Sanjay was the hero and Tabu was the heroine in the movie ‘Prem’. It took a long time to make this movie.
Because of which it didn’t come out as expected. Tabu’s performance was seen in the movie ‘Vijaypath’ with Ajay Devgan. She was awarded for Best Female Debut for this film. ‘I’m excited.’ Some movies did wonders on the box office and some movies were a flop. A movie proved that Tabuwas a wonderful actress. She was felicitated with a National Film Award. The name of the movie was ‘Maachis’ by Gulzar.
She worked with famous director Priyadarshan in the movie ‘Kaala Paani’. Mohan Lal and Prabhu Ganeshanwere in the lead roles. This was a South Indian film and everyone appreciated Tabu’s performance. Tabu is an actress who also worked in commercial cinema and a variety of films too.
